STABBING BY A SAILOR --
Theodore Rose, a young sailor, was brought up on remand, charged with stabbing a cooper named James Beaumont. It appeared that between two and three o'clock on Wednesday morning the prosecutor was going along Upper Harrington-street toward his home. The prisoner and another man had previously been quarrelling in the street. Rose was seen to go near an entry and open a clasp knife, with which he stabbed the prosecutor in his left arm, inflicting a serious wound. He was sent to goal for six weeks.
CHARGE OF ROBBERY AGAINST A SHOPMAN --
A man named Thomas Dutton was charged with having stolen 5s, three pairs of boots, and a piece sole leather, the property of Mr. Thomas Kenning, boot and shoe maker, Mark9et place South. Mr. Moore prosucted. The prisoner had been the manager of the shop since the 24th February last. Latterly suspicions were entertained respecting his honest, and on Wednesday some marked mony, ammounting to 9s. 6d., was given to Mres. Horslet, wife of the bridewell-keeper, to make some purchases at the prosecutor's shop. Accordingly she bought a pair if boys' boots for 5s., a pair of ladies' boots for 3s. 6d., and a paor of slippers for 2s. 6d. No invoice was given by prisoner with the goods. Soon after the purchases had been had been made Detective-officer Hodgson apprehended the prisoner, and found in his waistcoat pocket 5s. of the marked money which Mrs. Horley had paid. The officer also discovered in the prisoner's house three pair of boots and 4lb. 2oz. of leather. The prisoner had accounted for the pair of ladies' boots and the slippers which he had sold to Mrs. Horsley, but njot for the boy's boots.- Mr. Moore said there were three other charges against the prisoner, who, it was also supposed, had brought with him a false character from Messers. Jones and Son, of Walsall.- The prisoner was remanded till Saturday.
